It was an exciting weekend for Palos Heights. Major renovations were done this spring on our pool due to a grant that was received. The Save our Pool group has become Friends of the Pool and with their help the pool that was almost closed three years ago, now has more than thirty more years of life! Saturday morning was the ribbon cutting ceremony complete with the Mayor, several Aldermen, a state representative and of course Waddles the Palos Heights Mascot.
The crowd gathered and listened to the many thank yous being given, then we sang God Bless America, the Mayor cut the ribbon and the pool was opened! We also had the very traditional bagpiper playing (don't all pool opening have a bagpiper?).
One of the major highlights of the renovations is the new slide. A drawing was held to see who would be the first down the slide and boy did Colin want to be that luck person. He didn't win but he was third down.
He said it was awesome. Then it was Sarah's turn. I think she was fifth.
It looks pretty cool, huh? The weather wasn't cooperating very well but Sarah and her friends stayed almost the entire day. Colin had a baseball game so Dan, Colin and I left early to go to the baseball fields. It sure feels like summer is here (not weatherwise) and the fun didn't stop. On Sunday we revisited the pool and at 3:00 they had the Splash for Cash event. A local bank donated gold dollars and quarters which were thrown into the pool's shallow end. On the count of three everyone jumped in.
Then the splashing began.
Colin came up with three gold dollars and four quarters. Sarah didn't find any (she forgot her goggles) so Colin gave her the quarters. I like it when they share. All in all it was a great weekend and we are going to get a lot out of our pool membership, I can already tell.
